What is "Data Recovery"?
Data recovery is the act of recovering data from a storage media format that has become inaccessible due to a vast array of disasters such as drive crashes, server failures, hackers, virus attacks, human error, theft, power outages and even sprinkler system malfunction.
What kind of files can I backup?
You can backup all files including email and multimedia files, such as picture, video, and/or sound files. Some backup programs exclude certain files, file types and directories and extensive multimedia files, such as picture, video, and/or sound files
What does an "Historical Backup" mean?
Historical backups only backup files that have been created or modified during a 24-hour period avoiding the possibility of unknowingly replacing a "good" copy with a "bad" one. Historical backups are stored on a separate folder incorporating the current day's date. In the event of a catastrophe, these folders are all you need to return your document as it was yesterday, the day before up to a period of 14 days (may be modified by the client)
Historical backups should not be confused with incremental backups. A problem with some incremental backups is that data restored takes longer as the most recent full backup must be recovered together with every incremental backup made since the last full backup. Condor Innovations has solved this problem with their DataVault data backup and recovery program as their proprietary methodology refreshes the full backup every time it does an historical backup making it a simple matter to recover the full current backup.
Do I need a High Speed Internet Connection?
The speed of your network is very important to ensure a reliable backup. We recommend a High Speed Internet connection.
Is my data safe?
Your data is transferred to, and stored in your own on-site and remote USB Hard Drives attached to DataVault devices using an encrypted connection. You own the USB Hard Drives and retain full control of your data at all times. Your data is not stored off-site on a third-party server beyond your care and control.
Does DataVault hace access to my data?
One of the main benefits of the DataVault program is that your data is always within your control. It is not stored off-site on a third-party server. We never have access to your data. All we see is the names of the files that have been copied or modified. DataVault compresses the data, encrypts it, and securely transfers them to your hard drives where you have the option to store them in encrypted form.
How much data can I transfer and backup?
Unlike most other programs, there is no limit to the amount of data that can be transferred. We have a fixed monthly fee regardless of the amount of data that is transferred and backed up. The amount of data that can be backed up is limited to some degree by the size of your USB Hard Drive. Once your USB Hard Drive is full, you have three options:
1. Rotate it
2. Buy a new one
3. Delete some of the incremental backups
How much time is required each day to backup my data?
DataVault is fully automated and requires no ongoing monitoring or management by you or your staff. Usually this is an overnight task.
How can I confirm my data has been backed up?
The easiest way to confirm that your backups are taking place is to check the daily logs that you receive from us via email. Alternatively, you can easily access the DataVault device to view your directory.
How easy is to recover my data?
Data recovery is where DataVault really stands apart from similar programs. Your data is available 24/7 and you control where and when you restore your data. Data recovery is as simple and fast as finding files in Windows Explorer.
What is "Point in Time Recovery"?
Point in Time Recovery is a valuable feature of the DataVault program which allows you to access a file as it was on any particular day, for a limited period of time, from your USB Hard Drive or unlimited period of time if using Hard Drive libraries. This is very convenient if you need a previous version of a document for regulatory compliance purposes. It is also a great advantage in the event of virus damage, or some other form of data corruption especially if the virus has gone undetected for a period of time. Using Point in Time Recovery you can easily go back to a date before the file was infected and recover your data.
What is Mirror Backup?
Mirror backup is an additional feature that allows the entire copy of a single directory at a given instant in time regardless if files were or not modified. Some applications (such as ACCPAC) requires the backup of entire directory structures.
